Discover England’s history online

English Heritage’s historical archive has been made freely available for the public to search online for the first time.

Reproduced by permission of English Heritage.NMRThe searchable database holds more than a million photographs and documents relating to England’s historic buildings and archaeological sites held by the National Monuments Record (NMR), English Heritage’s public archive.

Until now, these searches had to be done in person at the NMR’s public search rooms in Swindon. But now images, plans, drawings, reports and publications covering England’s archaeology, architecture, social and local history can be accessed via any computer at www.englishheritagearchives.org.uk.

Each catalogue item consists of a description and users can place orders online. Registration is free, and customers will only be charged for any documents they order.
