Curators prepare for worldwide Twitter Q&A

Museums and galleries staff around the world are honing their Twitter skills in preparation for Ask a Curator Day on 1 September 2010.

Ask a Curator Day will provide free access to leading expertsAsk a Curator Day will provide free access to leading experts who wish to share their passion for art, history and science in a global Q&A session hosted by social networking site Twitter.

To ask a curator a question all people will need to do is be a member of the website Twitter and select a participating venue.

Venues currently participating include: London Transport Museum, Imperial War Museum, Kensington Palace, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Beamish Museum, TATE, British Museum, National Museum Cardiff and National Museums Liverpool.

A full list of contributing cultural venues can be found in the who to ask? section of the Ask a Curator site. Interested Twitterers can also follow the hashtag #askacurator on 1 September to track the questions other people around the world are asking.

Ask a Curator follows a similar successful event called Follow a Museum. The event took place in February 2010 and successfully increased museum followers and activity on Twitter.

Museums or gallery that would like to get involved in the global campaign can email the name of their venue and the Twitter username which they want to use to answer questions.
