Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Churchill College Cambridge, the National and Commonwealth Memorial to Sir Winston Churchill.
Description
Churchill College Cambridge was founded in 1960 by Sir Winton Churchill, it is the embodiment of his vision of how higher education can benefit society in the modern age. It is also home to the Churchill Archives Centre, which keeps Sir Winston’s and Baroness Thatcher’s papers, as well as a further 600 papers of their contemporaries.Churchill College was the first Cambridge College to accept women and maintains a 70% Science and Technology quota. More than 20 of its Fellows have been awarded Nobel Prizes.
Its architecture was praised by Niklaus Pevsner as being “The Best Of The New”.
Now, in its fiftieth year, the College wants to extend Sir Winston’s vision with a new courtyard and additional academic support.
